PLASTIC CRATES V’S WOODEN CRATES
Are you’re comparing Plastic Crates versus Wooden Crates? Here’s some tips to help point you in the right direction.
When handled correctly, a Plastic Crate should last you around 10 years! Meanwhile a Wooden Crate might last around 5, this is the nature of using a natural product. As an added bonus with Plastic Crates, they are UV resistant seeing them stand the test of time even when left outside in the elements.
Depending on the style of Plastic Crate, they can hold a couple of tonn. Whereas a timber crate can be custom designed to hold 10's of tonns of weight. Theres no question that a heavy load of equipment would be better suited to a timber crate.
Unless you’re looking at container loads of Plastic Crates they cannot be custom made. There are a number of styles to choose from, but you’re somewhat restricted if you need custom made.
Wooden Crates are ALWAYS custom made and can be designed to hold 10′s of tons of weight. If you’re shipping overseas your timber can be ISPM 15 Certified to meet export regulations.
Plastic Crates are hands down the best solution when hygiene is a priority in your warehouse. You can clean these with a high pressure cleaner and easily sterilize them.
Unfortunately timber cannot be cleaned, so if this is important to you, then timber wouldn’t be an option.
Both options are export friendly. Wooden Boxes can be ordered as ISPM15 Certified, leading manufacturers like us can manage this very easily for you. Plastic pallets are more than suitable as straight off the shelf.
This is not so black and white but in all likelihood, buying a Plastic Crate WILL be a more expensive investment $ for $ versus a Wooden Crate.
In saying this, it really depends on what you need the crates for, and what is important to you. If you need to leave your crate outside, and it needs to be clean, then its worth paying for a plastic one, but if the standard sizes don’t suit, or you have a weight requirement of more than a couple of ton, then the best solution is to get a Wooden Crate.
At the end of the day, just make sure you ask your packaging expert all the right questions so that you’re sure you’re getting a product that ticks of the needs you have. Feel free to call or email us to see how we can help.
