If you need to export timber, you're likely to hear about this regulation, but what is it, who needs it, and how do you get it?
ISPM stands for International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures. The 15 is because it’s the 15th publication. This certification is a requirement for the export or import of wooden packaging. This includes items like PALLETS, WOODEN BOXES, SHIPPING CRATES and even DUNNAGE (pieces of timber). So if you're shipping overseas and using a wooden pallet it will need to carry the ISPM 15 stamp.
This is not something you necessarily need to manage. Depending on the timber you need, you will find your timber manufacturer will take care of this for you. You just need to mention your exporting needs at the time of requesting a quoted.
